When one visited France last weekend, as one does, one managed to buy this 1950 children's book by the great Mary Blair.
The illustration, oh the illustration!!!!...14 pages, 28 sides of iconic, wonderful retro art work.
Now reluctantly for sale on Ebay here
Also for sale on my Ebay is this very tatty French photo album filled with no less than ninety vintage, loose photographs. No kind of theme to the photos, just random people, children, families, soldiers, dating back, I should think, to Edwardian times upto the 40's.
Very interesting and wonderful for mixed media makers.
I have added a couple of more items to my folksy shop. Lovely long, long length of French cotton trim, which is still attached to it's original paper. The paper and a small portion of the trim, is slightly decayed and rather gorgeous.
Talking of something gorgeous, I have also added a large, pillow case with four M o P buttons ...musty, worn linen and darned! Floats my boat!
Can you make out the hand darning below? Sublime.

It's rather sad to think of the demise of that wonderful photo album really, that there is no family treasuring it ... :o(

What goodies to behold. I am in love with 50's children book illustration I think also Disney's sleeping beauty is my fav. for the style the backgrounds were so amazingly stylized
To live so close to France that one could visit it for the weekend how wonderful!!! And then you got to come home with all that neat stuff, did you keep anything for yourself?

Amazing things to cherish. I love the old album. I collect vintage greetings cards and by the sticky backs on them I think a lot of them started off in just such an album.
Loved the French market too. Would have loved to be there and wouldn't have minded getting up at 2 am in such a good cause.
Vi...I missed the auction by 1 dollar in US someone was sitting on it and punced at the every end. Bummer. If you ever have any other auctions like this let me know. I would be interested.

Great stuff...I adore the childrens book. I am Cold Play addict...fall asleep most every night listening to Vitamin String Quartets tribute to Cold Play and by day I am plugged into the iPod listening to the originals.
